Straw Dogs 03:59
I’ve seen the power and I’ve seen the glory and I hid what I learned like it was something precious. These streets weren’t paved with a sense of direction and the isolation reveals only scabs in reflection picked off and collected the wounds never heal and the liquor store lights are all that is real the north star I chase has a taste like sweat and the beautiful part is I deserve all I get Goddamn the sun and the weight it wields, Chasing down veins like the rats in the walls, Closing in until only smoke is left to breathe, The air is now a weapon of the disease. More frank talk, Fewer gunshots, Nails scraped off scaling the wall. Like an arbor knot, Pulling makes it tighter, Stop fighting unless you want some more. Here’s the prayer for a city, Here’s the sound of bells, Here’s the lout’s last call Crying out against the rising smoke From the pier on fire Under lock and key Walls are closing in Get out while you can. This is hustle, this is rebel, This is buildings buckled against the sky, Name all the roaches, Something Biblical, They’ll outlast the dust, What’s left to burn out When it’s already faded away? Goddamn the sun and the weight it wields, Chasing down veins like the rats in the walls, Closing in until only smoke is left to breathe, The air is now a weapon of the disease. No matter, call a draw, Shoot yourself and start again. We’ve been straw dogs All along

The Gallows 04:23
Teenage angst never paid off well, So now I’m playing show-and-tell, Surgical tubes, a bent spoon, Sniff this and shoot the moon. A little romance, pour the wine, Ritual destruction our valentine. Modern people with the modern problem, Of just trying to survive. The shoreline weeps a little more into the ocean, And the night gets a little blacker without the stars, There’s a loud commotion on the courthouse lawn, The gallows have come into bloom. Borrowed time and a death wish, Collisions constant as the sky, I can see the end from here, No pot of gold, no exit. We’re allowed outside during twilight, Dose ourselves to sleep at dawn, They lit the oil beneath the river And the bridge is folded up into a prayer. The shoreline weeps a little more into the ocean, And the night gets a little blacker without the stars, There’s a loud commotion on the courthouse lawn, The gallows have come into bloom. And they’ve saved a place for me. The steps creak, Don’t weep, Face the end with bravery. Beneath a black hood All you’ll hear is Lies from the priest who dared wear white. Good people always so sure they’re right, I got no tears, I ain’t afraid, I am not sorry for my crime. Sometimes you’ll find Yourself going astray, But whose path Would lead you, This far out of the way? Sometimes you’ll find, Yourself running away, I have left you, But I will find you, When you finally breakaway.

Cement 03:29
I’m still marking maps like I once marked up your pale skin, Little blades and mouth shapes while you were blindfolded. It’s been some time since you’ve been around, But all it takes a flash of your eyes to pummel my solid ground. Don’t leave this plea hanging on the line, I’m better I swear this time. We fit together like a puzzle, That reveals an image, Of what was a perfect world, Disappeared And now my worst fear is that I lack the strength To leave behind, all I’ve built, to wallow in your grave Don’t leave this notion in the ether, You know I haven’t been a saint You never came to fruition, A project never realized. And that’s fine. My rubber cement My glue and glass Could bring you to life Someday, I’ll see you, passing by. Oblivious, or just incredulous, That I’m alive.

A quart of gin, a tank of gas, The night hot like a fever My nerves draw current from the dark, My palms sweat, the finger slips, Send some thirty ought through his lips I just need, a little bit, To get by, to stay alive, An education, good family, A certain tendency, faulty wiring, A risk to take, the pressure great, I’m sorry that I killed your son. Milk for the kid, Slims for the wife, Burn my clothes in a barrel outside, A roar, like a demon come to life, I hear the sirens before I see the lights. Get them all down the bunker stairs, Arrange the magazines by caliber, Squeeze don’t pull, clear your eyes, Aim high No education, no family, A certain tendency, faulty wiring, A risk to take, the pressure great, I’m sorry that I killed your husband. But this is all, I’ve got left, I know what you have to do. But please, understand, I’m not gonna make it easy for you. If I’m sent to hell, I’m bring you along, If I’m spared, If I survive, I’ll punch my own ticket and take the ride.
