Teenage angst never paid off well,
So now I’m playing show-and-tell,
Surgical tubes, a bent spoon,
Sniff this and shoot the moon.
A little romance, pour the wine,
Ritual destruction our valentine.
Modern people with the modern problem,
Of just trying to survive.
The shoreline weeps a little more
into the ocean,
And the night gets a little blacker
without the stars,
There’s a loud commotion on
the courthouse lawn,
The gallows have come into bloom.
Borrowed time
and a death wish,
Collisions constant as the sky,
I can see the end from here,
No pot of gold, no exit.
We’re allowed outside during twilight,
Dose ourselves to sleep at dawn,
They lit the oil beneath the river
And the bridge is folded up into a prayer.
The shoreline weeps a little more
into the ocean,
And the night gets a little blacker
without the stars,
There’s a loud commotion on
the courthouse lawn,
The gallows have come into bloom.
And they’ve saved a place for me.
The steps creak,
Don’t weep,
Face the end with bravery.
Beneath a black hood
All you’ll hear is
Lies from the priest who dared wear white.
Good people always so sure they’re right,
I got no tears, I ain’t afraid,
I am not sorry for my crime.
Sometimes you’ll find
Yourself going astray,
But whose path
Would lead you,
This far out of the way?
Sometimes you’ll find,
Yourself running away,
I have left you,
But I will find you,
When you finally breakaway.
